Quality of Life Committee
May 2, 2006 Meeting
In Attendance: Mary Jill Freed (Co-chair), Jane Warren, Suellen Hozman, Brian Barr,
Loretta Marvin, and Sue Neff
1. Discussion of upcoming restaurant event at Aladdins on June 2. The board had selected the restaurant at their last meeting. The committee agreed with the choice. Suellen will contact Aladdins to set up the arrangements. The start time will be determined by when the belly dancing starts. We will announce the event at the next general meeting. We will also send out a group E-mail the week before June 2.
2. The possibility of a garage sale to be held on June 17, which is the day of the East side home tour and the Magnolia Street garage sale was discussed. It was decided that it would be too much competition for the Home Tour.
3. The Neighborhood summer picnic was discussed. A date of July 22 was decided upon. Last year it went from 4 to 7 pm. We decided this would work for this year as well. Mary Jill will call the Foster Center to see if that date is open. We started a To Do List:
a. Prepare informational fliers about the neighborhood. We should
list the accomplishments of the Group such as, The Candidates meetings, last yearŐs picnic, the Restaurant of the Month, etc.
The fliers will also have the date of the picnic and the dates of future General Meetings. Joan Nelson had offered interns to deliver fliers from Foster to Clemmons. Committee members could cover the rest of the neighborhood.
b. Loretta will man the sign in and donation table. We still have our donation box from last year
c. We will need to contact the fire and police departments to see if they can attend.
d. We need someone to do water balloons.
e. We should see if we can get a donation for the hot dogs etc. again.
f. We need to ask people to loan tables, coolers, and lawn chairs. We will ask John M. if we can use his tarp again.
g. We discussed upcoming events in the neighborhood. The Allen Street FarmerŐs Market opens May 17 from 2-6. The Gone Wired Kitchen should be ready for a fall gathering. The National Night Out is August 1.
h. We will see if we can find musicians to perform for food. We might be able to find some at MagdalenasŐs open mike night on Mondays.
i. We need to ask Blimpies if we can use their bathrooms again.
4. We decided that the committee will concentrate on the picnic and restaurant
gatherings for the rest of the year.
5. The next Quality of Life meeting will be May 23.
