QUALITY OF LIFE COMMITTEE
MINUTES
JANUARY 26, 2005 MEETING

The Committee met at the Foster Center. In attendance were: Andi Crawford, David and Mary Jill Freed, Loretta Malvin, Suellen Hozman.

1. The "Spotlight Restaurant of the Month" was the first item of discussion. Several restaurants were identified as potential candidates. It was determined that the first restaurant we would approach was The Taj. The idea is to have the neighborhood patronize the selected restaurant for an entire month. The date selected for the "kick-off" is the February 20 Sunday buffet, and the Committee will encourage maximum participation. This will be announced at the next full meeting on February 16.

2. The "Capitol Car Classic" was the next agenda item. This event is scheduled for August 13, 2005. It is being organized by the R.E. Olds Museum. David and Mary Jill Freed will attend the next meeting on February 2. The Committee discussed soliciting from the February 2 meeting how our organization could assist and participate.

Ideas we had included promoting participation by restaurants in a Taste of the Eastside event. We discussed possibly providing a tent for participating restaurants, organizing a children's activities area, and having appropriate live music.

3. There was interest expressed in having a major Block Party involving all neighborhoods, possibly hosted by Fairview Street.

4. Another idea was to pursue having residents who grow fresh vegetables share them with other residents.

5. Another idea was to have a Plant Swap in the Spring when gardeners divide their plants.

6. It was suggested that there be a Good Service List posted on the main website (fosteryourneighborhood.com [www.fosteryourneighborhood.org -- bb]) identifying recommended plumbers, electricians, etc.

The next meeting of the Committee will be February 23, 2005.
