Recap: The subcommittee met November 8, 2004; Jennifer Griere, Michele Riddering, Nancy Parsons, and Marina Kotsifis were present. The discussion involved traffic calming, signage, lighting, sidewalks, snow removal & tree/bush pruning.

Traffic Calming

á       From past general meetings it seems that Fairview, Foster and Clemens are problem areas. Need to get further input from association as to what they think the needs are in their particular area and what type of controls they would like to see.

á       Nancy suggested driving down Barnes (by Mt. Hope) to see different types of traffic calming

á       Traffic circles- may not be practical for our area

á       Islands- Could possibly work in areas from Saginaw to Michigan Ave.

á       Speed Bumps- May be most practical. The city is working on a study from the temporary bumps on Fairview and Merrill. Ambulances and Fire say it slows them down. Not a problem for snow removal trucks.

á       ÒFat cornersÓ Ð may work in some areas

á       Copy Center on Kipling/Michigan Ave.- needs a solution to parking and delivery trucks blocking the road

Signage

á       This committee feels that signage is a low priority and would rather beautify the area than clutter it with more signs

á       Exception being the possibility of more stop signs on some streets between Saginaw and Michigan Avenue

á       We would like to get input from the association and continue to monitor the possible need for more signs

Lighting

á       The committee would like to gather input from the association as to any problems with relation to lighting

Sidewalks

á       Problem areas need to be reported so they can be turned in to the city

Snow Removal

á       24 hours to shovel

á       Contact Code Compliance with problems

á       Rental-owner is responsible

á       Come up with Òsnow angelsÓ to help elderly and disabled

Tree/Bush Trimming

á       There is a problem with trees/bushes that go over sidewalks and block walking

á       On homeowner property-contact Code Compliance

á       On city property-contact City Forestry Department

Recommendations: We will continue to monitor the above traffic issues, gain input from association members and develop ideas to solve identified problems.
