TRAFFIC SUBCOMMITTEE RECAP

Committee Formed: October 20, 2004 Foster Your Neighborhood General Meeting.

Purpose: To monitor automobile and pedestrian traffic issues, and develop ideas to make our neighborhood a safer place.

Committee Members: Jennifer Briere (Chairperson), Ann Tingay, Jane Warren, Nancy Parsons, Marina Kotsifis, Marilyn Grigg, and Michele Riddering (Secretary and Board Representative)

Recap: The subcommittee met December 13, 2004; Jennifer Briere, Jane Warren, Michele Riddering, and Nancy Parsons were present.  The discussion involved traffic calming, developing a brochure to help keep our neighbors informed and the suggested member survey.

Traffic Calming

·       We would like to gain information on the studies that have been performed by the city over the last 5 years.

Brochure

·       We would like to develop a brochure that has telephone numbers for the different problems that people discuss, i.e. snow removal, parking violations, etc.

·       This brochure would also include helpful tips.

·       We were thinking that it would be possible to have the brochure include a section from each of the committees.

·       Perhaps this brochure could be included in the welcome package that was discussed by the Quality of Life Committee.

Member Survey

·       We feel that at this time we have a good grasp on what the members are looking for, and we would rather concentrate our interests on a brochure and some research into the various issues/problems that have been presented at the meetings.

·       Perhaps a survey could be developed on an annual basis to see how things are going etc.

Other Ideas

·       It was discussed that a letter could be sent out introducing the new association to area businesses.  Perhaps we can get a relationship going, which may help with situations such as the one on Kipling.

·       Maybe we could come up with a form letter for new people coming in and introduce ourselves and explain the different committees and inform them of parking laws etc.  This may be redundant if we have a welcome package.

Recommendations:  We would like to concentrate our efforts on developing a brochure and researching traffic calming studies/ideas/possibilities.

Next Meeting Date:  There will be no meeting in January.  The next meeting will be: Monday February 14, 2005 at 6:30 pm at 712 Newton Street (Michele Riddering’s house)
